Camper's Cove of Alpena, Michigan: A Summer Getaway.

Located on the sunrise side, Alpena, Michigan is a great, summer vacation spot.  Camper's Cove is a comfortable campground that helps reduce your workday stress.  When my family visits Alpena in the summer, we stop at the campground for a pontoon rental for a few hours on Thunder Bay.

The price is decent and a family can spend some time on the water without breaking the bank.  I always get to do a little fishing, have a picnic, and watch fighter planes maneuver at the local airport.  Bring a few comfy chairs and enjoy the sunshine and clean air.  Or, stick your feet in the water and toss a line for some bluegill or the odd perch or catfish.  As I motored around the bay, there is the feeling of being in a remote Canadian lake.  There is some thick weed beds around the bay so you may need to put the engine in reverse and shred the weeds.

The campground has many amenities.  A laundromat, convenience store, pool, cabins, and even Wi-fi and cable is available.  Alpena is about an hour and a half southeast of Mackinaw and is a great base camp for excursions to the bridge.  It is a relatively quiet atmosphere and has access to Alpena's other resources.  You can check out their website here.

  1. It sounds nice and the lake looks beautiful. You should review the Ausable river canoe marathon in Grayling in the third weekend in July! ~ Jamie
